Information on conditions:

·    CATARACT. A clouding that develops in the crystalline lens of the eye. It is more common in elderly people but it may affect children or youngerpatients and cause a progressive eye blurring.  Modern CATARACT surgery uses an avant-garde PHACOEMULSIFICATION technology that requires local ambulatory anesthesia, reduces surgery time (6-10 minutes) and recovery time, and is completely ambulatory. The purpose of the procedure is to substitute an INTRAOCULAR LENS for a cloudy lens (cataract).

·  LASIK is the procedure that is more commonly performed worldwide to correct refractive disorders such as MYOPIA (shortsightedness), HYPERMETROPIA (long-sightedness), ASTIGMATISM and also FARSIGHTEDNESS (eye strain). EXCIMER LASER is used. This is a very quick procedure (5 minutes per eye), only anesthetic eye-drops are applied and recovery is practically immediate.

·  INTRA-CORNEAL RINGS (intacs-ferrara)This is a procedure used for the treatment of KERATOCON, a congenital corneal malformation causing myopia and astigmatism that develops during young age. This is also an ambulatory procedure using anesthetic eye drops that has a very short recovery time. The purpose of this surgery is to delay the evolution of the keratocon, stabilize it and, in some cases, improve vision.

·  PTERYGIUM (Fleshy excrescence) It requires a modern technique microsurgery to get rid of the excrescence (Pterygium) It is usually ambulatory and performed using local anesthesia. Autologous graft is the best treatment to prevent reappearance.

·  CORNEA TRANSPLANT (keroplasty) This procedure has experienced a remarkable evolution. Now it allows for a very quick recovery with the use of local anesthesia. This procedure is used to solve all cornea conditions that cannot be treated by other means such as the advanced keratocono, burn-related clouds, degenerations, etc.
